Baby Bjorn Baby Carrier

Every parent must have a Baby Bjorn!  It's simply the best baby carrier.  Ask anyone.  You'll hear comments like: "I've never seen a baby crying in one."  "It's the greatest feeling to have a warm baby sleeping on your chest."

What's so great?  What does the Baby Bjorn do?  Simply put, it lets you suspend your baby in front of you, either facing you or facing out.  The baby gets a great ride, a great view and stays nice and cozy.  Meanwhile the parent carrying the infant gets to keep their arms free and is able to walk around normally.

If you have an infant, age 1-12 months, you'll get a lot of use from a the Baby Bjorn carrier. Once your child grows to be too large, you'll undoubtedly find a relative or family friend to give this your Baby Bjorn on to as a wonderful gift.

Bouncy Chair

For infants from ages 1 month to about 8 months, a bouncy chair can help a baby relax, go to sleep, while saving Mom and Dad from having to hold them the whole time. "Never failed to calm him down.  We'd put him in there, and as he kicked his little legs, the chair would rock up and down." Heed the warning, however, not to put it on the washing machine.

The Best Gift

Did your friends just have their first baby?  Are you wondering: "What's the best gift I can give them?"

Here's the secret answer, as provided by many new parents I've spoken with: "Bring us a nice dinner, visit for 10 minutes, then LEAVE."

Think about this.  New parents have to respond to a baby's cycle of eating and sleeping every 3-4 hours all day long.  They are usually getting very little sleep.  The day flies by, and no one has much energy to shop or cook a decent meal for themselves.

Here's where you come in.  Prepare a nice meal (or purchase one). Deliver it to their house around 5pm.  The type of meal that can be put in the fridge and eaten as leftovers is ideal: lasagna, Chinese food, salads and the like. If you're really a good samaritan, you might just leave it by the front door and knock quietly.  If you do go into the house and take a look at the newborn - PLEASE, please, do not burden them for more than 10 minutes.  You are interrupting the routine.

You should call ahead -- but don't let your friends talk you out of bringing food over!  Tell them you are coming just to drop it off, and ask if there's anything else you can bring over.

Some areas now have meal delivery services, and you can purchase gift certificates for the parents to use when they need.

In any case, you are truly giving a gift that will be gratefully remembered!

Baby Monitor

Several Mothers recommended video baby monitors as must-haves.  Basically, the peace-of-mind, and the ability to watch the baby without going into their room were the big reasons why parents recommended a video baby monitor.

There are a couple on the market worth investigating.  The key things to look for are picture quality and reception.  Of course, if spending more than $100 on a baby monitor is not for you, there are lots of good "old-fashioned" audio-only baby monitors as well.

Here are the two most recommended video monitors: SafetyFirst TV Baby Monitor - "It's peace of mind.  I can just look over during the night and see what she's doing."

Baby's Quiet Sounds Video Monitor by Summer Infant Products - "Great picture quality, and a reasonable price!"
