Lightweight and Jogging Baby Strollers

Choosing a baby stroller can be daunting. There are several types of strollers out there: lightweight, double strollers, travel strollers and joggers. As our children have grown up, we've owned several of each type of baby stroller. What we recommend first is the all-purpose, go-anywhere lightweight baby stroller.

How To Find The Right Stroller

The simplest rule is: go for lightweight strollers that fold up easily.  You'll use them more.  Something that weighs under 8 pounds will be very useful.  Find something that drives well.  Check out what your friends have.  Test drive the stroller.  Make sure it's tall enough for dad.Combi Savvy Z Stroller is a lightweight stroller good for all types of travel

A good stroller will last several years, and really be worth the money you spend.  It'll probably cost about $130 - $250.  We owned several strollers before finding our favorite: The Combi Savvy Z - mainly because it folds up very easily and weighs only 7.5lbs.

When unfolding a stroller, you need to latch or lock it to make sure it won't collapse.  Look for a stroller that has an easy to use "slider" type lock right on the handle.  It's difficult for a Mom to reach down and latch the stroller when she also has a baby in her arms!

Another feature to look for is a good set of wheels that steer easily and have a simple locking system.  Some strollers have better suspension systems than others -- this can really help when you are moving about in the city.  In town, you go over many more curbs, up and down stairs and need extra maneoverability.  Once again, a quality lightweight stroller will work really well.

Finally, look for some storage space on any stroller you buy.  Pockets behind the seat and under the seat are a must!

These days, we use our stroller mostly on airplane trips -- you can carry a tired child through the airport, and when the children aren't in it, you can use it as a luggage carrier.  Since the stroller is checked at the gate, you always have it when you need it -- and when travelling with babies and children, you need it.

Amazon doesn't have the greatest selection because they are missing some of the key brands such as Combi. However for price, they are worth looking at. See all of the lightweight strollers Amazon carries.

Baby Jogger Stroller

Strollers for jogging are great for moms and dads who need to get some exercise while watching their toddler. A lot of mothers like to use the jogger to help get back in shape.

Jogging strollers or "joggers" are perfect for walking and light jogging on sidewalks, paved roads and park areas. While moving quickly across the road, babies will often fall soundly asleep. There are many types of joggers, including double and triple strollers.

Joggers are bigger than most strollers and generally have three fixed wheels, so they aren't great for maneuvering around the mall or at Target, but for road and park use, they are the best. Since you are exercising, the weight of the stroller matters even more. A light stroller is better for jogging. Popular brands include Baby Jogger, Jeep Urban Terrain Stroller and InSTEP

Ask your friends, or people you see with a jogging stroller, then try pushing one yourself. It's important to feel comfortable. Then get one yourself, you'll have a great reason to get out of the house and do some fun exercise!
